How to Use Your Wegovy® Pen
This guide will walk you through the steps for preparing and using your Wegovy® pen safely and correctly. Follow each step carefully to ensure you receive the correct dose of your medication.
Before You Begin
Your first order will contain:
A box with a Wegovy® pen and four needles
A sharps bin to dispose of your used needles
Step 1: Prepare Your Pen
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Prepare a clean surface for your pen and supplies.
Check your Wegovy® pen to confirm the strength matches your prescription.
Inspect the pen to make sure it isn’t damaged and is within its expiry date.
Remove the pen cap and inspect the liquid inside. It should be clear or colourless and free from any particles.
Step 2: Attach the Needle
Wipe the rubber membrane at the end of the pen with an alcohol swab.
Remove the paper tab from a new needle.
Screw the needle on straight and tight onto the pen.
Remove the outer needle cap and keep it — you will need it later to safely remove the needle.
Remove the small inner needle cap and dispose of it.
Step 3: Prime Your Pen (Flow Check)
Priming your pen is essential to remove air and ensure it is working correctly. This is also known as a flow check and should be done before your first injection with each new pen.
Turn the dose selector until you see two dots displayed in the window.
Hold the pen vertically with the needle pointing up.
Press and hold the dose button until the window shows zero.
You will see a drop of liquid at the tip of the needle. This confirms the pen is ready.
If you do not see any liquid, repeat the process until you do.
Step 4: Choose and Prepare Your Injection Site
Choose an injection site. You can inject into:
Your abdomen (at least 5cm away from your belly button)
The front of your upper thigh
The back of your upper arm (if someone is helping you)
Rotate your injection sites weekly to avoid skin reactions.
Clean your chosen injection area with an alcohol swab and allow it to dry.
Step 5: Set Your Dose and Inject
Turn the dose selector until it stops and the window shows your prescribed dose.
Always check that the correct dose is displayed in the window before injecting.
Place the needle into the skin at a 90-degree angle.
Press the dose button all the way in and keep it pressed until the window shows zero.
Continue to hold the needle in the skin for at least six seconds to ensure the full dose is administered.
Carefully remove the pen.
Step 6: Safely Remove and Dispose of the Needle
On a flat surface, carefully guide the needle back into the outer needle cap that you kept from earlier.
Unscrew the needle and dispose of it in your sharps bin.
Replace your pen cap.
